The Protestant Theological Faculty of the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, offers a doctoral scholarship to support a PhD in Biblical Theology. The candidate will be enrolled in our graduate program and work within the framework of the project: ‘Textuality in the Second Temple Judaism: Composition, Function, and Transmission of Texts’.
The topic of the PhD thesis supported by the scholarship should preferably be linked to one of the following two fields:
Textual criticism of the Hebrew Bible
Prophetic literature in the Second Temple period
The candidate is expected:
to hold a master’s degree in biblical studies, theology, or another relevant field
to be fluent in English (both oral and written)
to have adequate training in the field (esp. in ancient languages and methodology)
to be able to fulfil all the requirements of the PhD training program
to be able to complete the PhD thesis in four years and
to have the desire to publish.
The successful candidate will initially receive a scholarship until the end of 2022 with the possibility of further extension based on the progress. It is highly preferred that the candidate will be residing in Prague. The scholarship is 22.500–25.000 CZK net/month (ca. 900–1000 €). The starting date is 1 October 2020.
