Etika a akademické svobody byly pro UK vždy zásadní oblastí. Díky HR Award dochází k rozšiřování záběru témat a aktivit, kterým je třeba se aktivně věnovat. Od vzniku klíčových orgánů, jako je Etická komise či Komise pro etiku ve výzkumu, došla univerzita až k vlastnímu strategickému Plánu rovných příležitostí či vytvoření Rady pro rovné příležitosti jakožto poradního orgánu rektorky nebo k ustanovení pozice celouniverzitní ombudsosoby.
