Abstract:

THE KINGDOM OF JUDAH OF THE IRON AGE IIA: A NEW COMBACK?

Recently started archeological project in Khirbet Qeiyafa in the region of Shephelah has brought a new and substantially stimulating impetus for common interpretative patterns used for Judah of the Iron Age IIA. So far uncovered parts of fortification from the beginning of the 10th century BCE that have been identified with biblical Sha’arayim provide scholarly debate with surprising, although preliminary outcomes, since the project is still in process. According to site authorities, the socioeconomical capacities of Judah, including centralized political structure referring to existence of state, are to be dated not to mid 9th century BCE, as proposed by many in accordance with so called ‘low chronology,’ but to the early 10th century BCE if not earlier. The very place of Khirbet Qeiyafa thus serves at present as undisputed point of departure for further exploration of the early phases of Iron Age in Judah.

Abstract:

DIETRICH BONHOEFFERS PSALMEAUSLEGUNG

Bibelauslegungen spielten im Bonhoeffers Werk eine wichtige Rolle; ausdrucksvolles Interesse hatte Bonhoeffer dabei für das Alte Testament. In diesem Artikel wird Bonhoeffers hermeneutischer Zutritt zu biblischen Psalmen behandelt, wie er in seinen Vorlesungen, Predigten und Andachten zum Ausdruck kommt. Am Anfang wird noch Aufmerksamkeit verschiedenen Anregungen des Kirchenkampfes für Bonhoeffers Hermeneutik geschenkt. Bonhoeffer charakterisiert Psalmen als spezifisches menschliches Wort und zu gleicher Zeit als Gottes Wort. Lösung von diesem Rätsel findet er in seinem einzigartigen Nachdruck an Verständnis von Psalmen als Gebet Christi. In seinen Predigten und Andachten bringt er zur Geltung Grundsätze der sog. theologischer Bibelauslegung; schrittweise drückt sich hier auch sein christologisches Verständnis von Psalmen. Die These von Zäsuren in Bonhoeffers Werk wird also durch seine Psalmenauslegungen nicht bestätigt.

Abstract:

DIE TAUFE ALS VERTRAG

Die Taufliturgie der Brüderunität in der Zeit von Lukas von Prag In dieser Studie wird die Taufliturgie der Brüderunität aufgrund von liturgischen Formularen aus der Schrift Priesteranweisungen (1527) von Lukas von Prag analysiert. Während die Taufpraxis der Brüderunität in ihren Anfängen liturgisch frei war, hatte Lukas anfangs des 16. Jahrhunderts die bisherigen Formen versammelt und zur Einheitsform gebracht. Ich zeige, dass in dieser Liturgie fast alle äussere Elemente der römischen Liturgie (meistens mit der exorzistischen Bedeutung) verlassen wurden. Im Zentrum der Liturgie steht der Taufvertrag, worin der Glaubende seinen Glauben bekennt, dem Bösen entsagt, dem Guten zusagt und sich in die Herrschaft Christi ergibt. Die Gottes Annahme des Täuflings in den neuen Bund wird durch die Handreichung und den Taufakt bekräftigt und bezeugt. Die Liturgie entspricht der Taufauffassung von Lukas, welche sich gegenüber der römischen Kirche und den Täufern abgrenzt. Die Wahrheit der Taufe hängt weder vom Wasserritus noch vom Glauben des Menschen als seinem Verdienst, sondern von der Erwählung Gottes selbst. Diese kann aber nur bei dem bewusst Glaubenden erkannt und ihm in der Taufe bezeugt werden. Die Kindertaufe wird von Lukas nicht abgelehnt, doch seine Bedeutung wird nur mit der Annahme in die Kirche zur weiteren christlichen Erziehung verbunden.

Abstract:

THINKING AS A PREVENTION OF EVIL-DOING AND ITS IMPACT ON HUMAN TOGETHERNESS IN HANNAH ARENDT

This article discusses by-products of thinking affecting human action in Hannah Arendt’s thought. First, I concentrate on Arendt’s understanding of evil in human action formulated in the concepts of radical and banal evil. The next part examines the impact of thinking on creating human being as a person with conscience and potential for judgment. Following, the focus shifts to the ways in which the lack of thinking is mirrored in human action. The last part explores transition from an inner dialogue between me and myself to an external dialogue of thinking with others without any external impulses leading to it. I argue that according to Hannah Arendt action in the sense of speech is another by-product of thinking besides conscience and judgment. Thinking in a public dialogue co-creates the space of appearances. Decay of this space results in violence entering acting and also thinking. Therefore, we can say thinking as a mental activity is not only prevention of evil action but also of the disintegration of the web of human relationships.
