Prof. Petr Pokorný: 1933-2020

In the early morning of 18 January, Prof. Petr Pokorný, an outstanding New Testament theologian and Dean of our Faculty in 1996-1999, died after a short illness at the age of 86.

Prof. Pokorný was also a philosopher and historian, and was co-founder of the Centre for Biblical Studies of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University. He was Director of the Centre in 1998-2010. His obituary with details of his professional career can be found here.

The funeral will be held in the congregation of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in the Vinohrady district of Prague, address Korunní 60, on Saturday, 25 January 2020, at 14:00.

Block seminar "Judah in the Shephelah", 21.11.

All those interested are invited to take part in the block seminar "Judah in the Shephaleh: Recent Developments in Tel Beth Shemesh", which will be led by Alexandra Wrathall from Tel Aviv University and will take place on Thursday, 21 November from 9:00 to 12:30 in the Small Lecture Hall on the first floor of the Faculty building.

Pesach and the Lord's Supper: Seminar 22.-23.11.

The Institute for Ecumenical Studies, in cooperation with the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University, invites you to the 49th seminar for people interested in theology on the theme "Pesach and the Lord's Supper in Interreligious Dialogue".

The lectures and workshops will be led by rabbis and a professor from Israel.

During the seminar we will learn about the Jewish roots of the Lord's Supper and the development of the ritual of the Pesach in Jewish communities. On Friday we are invited to participate in the evening prayer in a synagogue.

The seminar will be held in the large lecture hall on the first floor of the Protestant Theological Faculty, Černá 9, Prague 1. It will start on Friday 22 November at 16:00 and will continue all day on Saturday 23 November.

The Protestant Theological Faculty celebrates its 100th anniversary

This autumn sees the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Protestant Theological Faculty in Prague in 1919.

To mark the occasion the Faculty will be holding a series of events on 10-12 November 2019.

They will start with a church service in the church of St Martin in the Wall (Martinská 8, Prague 1) on Sunday, 10 November at 19:30. On Monday 11 November at 15:00 Prof. Manfred Oeming from Heidelberg University will be awarded an honorary doctorate by Charles University in the Carolinum building (Ovocný trh 541/3, Prague 1), and the celebrations will conclude with a syposium on the theme "100 Years of Protestant Theology" in the Faculty building at Černá 9, Prague 1, on Tuesday 12 November.
