Archaeological excavations in Israel in 2023

We are announcing a call for applications for participation in archaeological excavations in Israel, which our faculty is organizing in 2023.


These will be the followings:

From July 15 to July 28, 2023 excavations will take place at the ancient fortress of Tel Azeka in the Shephelah area

From 20 August - 8 September 2023, excavations will take place at the site of Tel Moca near Jerusalem, where an Iron Age temple was uncovered

Both expeditions will take place as part of a long-term collaboration with Tel Aviv University's Institute of Archaeology. Participants will be reimbursed for their transportation costs to Israel, expenses for conducting archaeological research, and accommodation and meals at the excavation site. Participants of the first expedition will be responsible for their own costs associated with a weekend in Jerusalem and personal expenses (costs will be covered by faculty resources of approximately 80-90%, some financial participation by students is expected).


The deadline for applications is TUESDAY, April 18, 2023 by 11:59 p.m. in the International Office, applications should be sent electronically

Conditions:

- good knowledge of English language

- appropriate (good) health conditions

- basic knowledge of the subject of study (see the Old Testament Department website for recommended readings)

- teacher's recommendation


INTERVIEWS will be held on WEDNESDAY, April 26, 2023 (interview times will be announced to all those who have been properly registered).


For those interested in participating in excavations at the Tel Moca site, it is highly recommended that you attend a block seminar on the topic on THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 2023 (see SIS for course RET1072B).
