Conference: “Resilience: Spiritual Practices and Theological Insights in Different Religious Traditions”
From 30 May to 1 June 2025, an International Scientific Doctoral and Post‐Doctoral Conference was held at the Fortna monastery on the topic of “Resilience: Spiritual Practices and Theological Insights in Different Religious Traditions.” The conference was organised by a research team led by Prof. Ivana Noble from the Protestant Theological Faculty.
A total of 33 conference participants explored how different forms of resilience can strengthen human development and what spiritual and theological sources they draw on. The conference emphasised the diverse personal and social dimensions of life, the relationship to nature and culture, and engagement in public life. Although most of the contributions were from a Christian perspective, voices from other religious traditions were also present at the conference.
In addition to speakers from all three theological faculties of Charles University, speakers from foreign institutions were also present: the Theological Academy of Volos (Greece), the Institute of Eastern Christian Studies at Radboud University in Nijmegen (the Netherlands), the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow (Poland), the Catholic University of Paris (France), the Centre for Comparative Theology and Social Issues in Bonn (Germany), Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem (Israel), University of Milan (Italy), Centre for Religious Studies at the University of Münster (Germany), University of Applied Arts Vienna (Austria), and Sankt Ignatios College in Stockholm (Sweden).
The conference was organised by the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University within the research grants “Beyond Security: The Role of Conflict in Resilience-Building” (No.: CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004595) and “Theological Anthropology in Intercultural Perspective” (No. UNCE/24/SSH/019).
