Dear students of the Protestant Theological Faculty,
Based on our long-standing experience with securing scholarships abroad, we would like to emphasize:
No procedure, no pathway, and no contact that may have worked reliably for years is permanent. Circumstances change over time, and there is always a chance that a scholarship may not be granted. Please do not let this discourage you—try again in the following year!
Before You Apply, Ask Yourself:
What are your academic reasons for applying for a scholarship abroad?
What is your level of language proficiency? (Language skills are a key factor in the selection process.)
If you meet the basic ETF criteria for submitting a scholarship application, here is where and how you can apply:
You can:
Search for opportunities independently by contacting foreign universities, faculties, foundations, or sponsoring organizations. Your initiative is welcome, and we appreciate any information you share with us.
Check the International Office notice board (2nd floor) for current information about scholarships, internships, language courses, job opportunities, and other events abroad. Detailed information and application forms are available in our office.
Apply through the Dům zahraniční spolupráce (DZS) / Czech National Agency for International Education and Research under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, which offers programs such as:
Apply through the ETF International Office provided you meet the faculty’s requirements.
Please note:
These opportunities are based on contacts and information from the International Office and faculty staff.
Certain conditions will apply.
The number of scholarships is limited and may be smaller than the number of applications.
ETF organizes a selection process for applicants.
Scholarships funded by state resources (see DZS) / Your Guide Through International Education
Scholarships from Charles University (e.g., Mobility Fund, inter-university agreements)
Scholarships through the ERASMUS+ program
Important Financial Notes
Scholarships are funded by an organization, foundation, church, state, or private entity—usually partially.
Expect some personal expenses, such as:
Travel costs
Health insurance
Official translations of required documents
Notarization of documents
Funding varies greatly between scholarships.
For English-speaking countries, passing a
TOEFL or IELTS exam is often required.
Due to the financial and time demands of these exams, register well in advance (we recommend at least six months before your planned departure).
All costs related to language exams or official translations are the responsibility of the applicant.
Students sent abroad through ETF scholarships must:
Report to the designated contact person at the host university and, for church or other scholarships, also to the sponsor providing the scholarship.
Inform the ETF International Office by email upon arrival (provide your address and phone number abroad, and report any (changes).
Notify the ETF International Office immediately in case of any unexpected complications (illness, accident, family matters) that could significantly affect or interrupt your stay.
