AI in Student Work
Charles University supports the use of tools and education in the field of generative artificial intelligence (hereinafter “AI”) by students, academic staff, and other employees of Charles University.
However, such use must comply with applicable legislation, the legal order of the Czech Republic, general ethical principles and principles of academic integrity, as well as the internal regulations of Charles University and its constituent parts.
At the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University, we follow the recommendations of the Charles University Working Group on Generative AI, which distinguish three levels of AI use according to the extent of its influence on the resulting work:
-
Level 1 use is generally considered acceptable; it is sufficient to disclose it in the declaration on the use of artificial intelligence.
-
Level 2 use should always be discussed in advance with the thesis supervisor.
-
Level 3 use should be completely excluded from the preparation of final theses.
The full text of the University recommendation is available here: Recommendations on AI in Final Theses
The use of AI in any student work must be transparent. For this purpose, students should use the Declaration on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (the linked page contains a declaration generator and sample statements).
If students are unsure whether a particular use of AI is permissible, they should consult their thesis supervisor.
