Abstrakt:

Eduard Böhl und seine tschechischen Studenten in Wien.

Im Gedenken an Prof. Pavel Filipi Der Aufsatz erörtert die Verbindung zwischen den Theologischen Fakultäten in Prag und Wien und namentlich dem Wirken des Systematikers Eduard Böhl, der auf seine tschechischen Studenten einen beachtlichen Einfluss ausübte, einen Schülerkreis um sich sammelte, sich weit über die Studienzeit hinaus zu Arbeitskonferenzen in mährischen Pfarrhäusern traf und durch Rundbriefe untereinander in Verbindung blieb. Er war auch der Urheber einer reformierten Konfessionalisierung, die mit dem „tschechischen Frühling“ einherging und sich am Heidelberger Katechismus (1563) und der Confessio Helvetica posterior (1566) orientierte. Im Leben der Evangelisch-Theologischen Fakultät in Wien spielten die nationalen Spannungen in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts eine beachtliche Rolle, die sich nach Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges zuspitzten und in der Verhaftung und Verurteilung einer Reihe von tschechischen Studenten gipfelten. Der Fall Jan Řezníček und dessen Verurteilung zum Tod am Strang, die später aufgehoben wurde, illustriert diese Spannung bis zum Zerreißen. Die tschechischen Reformierten erblickten in der altösterreichischen Evangelischen Kirche A.u.H.B. ein staatskirchliches Gebilde, das sie von ihrem calvinistischen Vorverständnis ablehnen mussten. Einen theologischen Ausgleich benannte die Vorlesung zum Schluss, einen Hinweis von Pavel Filipi aufgreifend. Dieser hatte den seit 1913 in Wien wirkenden Theologen Josef Bohatec als eine „Gabe“ des tschechischen Protestantismus an die Wiener Fakultät bezeichnet. Mit ihm ist auch ein wichtiger „Brückenschlag“ zwischen Prag und Wien markiert.

Abstrakt:

Healing by Stories

This text is focused on narrative theology of Richard Kearney, Irish philosopher, theologian, political thinker and novelist. The central question is, how can we understand stories as ways of healing our traumas and wounds of other people. At first, we show the connection of stories and histories, or narratives and their influence on common human being. Secondly, we examine René Girard’s scapegoat theory as a base for persecuting stories. After that we discuss Kearney’s attempt to find possibilities, how can we turn persecuting to healing stories and catharsis. Therefore we analyse Kearney’s concept of possible God, which is fundamental basis of his narratology and the theological cantus firmus of his work and we explore concrete implications of theology to his narrative theory. Finally we discuss weaknesses of Kearney’s approach and several possibilities, how to develop his narrative theology in another research and spiritual praxis.

Abstrakt:

Liturgy and the Discerning Worldview. On the Relationship Between Liturgy and Ethics

What is the relation between ethical discernment and liturgy? Do Christian rituals provide enough space for ethical thinking? What is the nature of the certainty that discernment in ritual is correct? The present study explores these questions in the context of the recent debate on the relationship between liturgy and ethics. It proceeds in five steps. Firstly, it briefly outlines the question of the foundation of Christian ethics with the help of the theology of Karl Barth. Secondly, it presents the joint task of ethics and liturgy, which teach us to see the world sub specie Christi. Thirdly, following Gordon Lathrop, it treats the problem of ritual constructing false worldviews: the hierarchical distortion, the distor-tion of the closed circle and spiritual consumerism. In the next part, it explores how different ritual strategies open the space for actual ethical thinking in liturgy. The last part focuses on the role of biblical narrative, images and symbols that represent the crucial source of the discerning worldview. The concluding reflection returns to the opening questions, arguing that our discernment must be always aware of its particularity and perspective. The unbroken certainty of seeing can only be placed on the eschatological horizon.

Der Reformator und der Humanist: Zur tschechischen Ausgabe der Luthers Schrift De servo arbitrio

Der Aufsatz ist bei der Gelegenheit der Edition der ersten tschechischen Vollübersetzung des zentralen, aber anspruchsvollen und nicht leicht zugänglichen Werkes Martin Luthers über den geknechteten Willen entstanden. Er erhellt die Bedeutung des Textes, indem er ihn in seine Schlüsselkontexte stellt. Einerseits geht es also um seine Entstehung im Streitgespräch mit Erasmus von Rotterdam, andererseits um seine Stelle in der eigenen Theologie Luthers und in ihrer inneren Entwicklung. In drei Phasen (vor dem Konflikt, im Konflikt und nach dem Konflikt) soll das Verhältnis zwischen dem Humanistischen und dem Reformatorischen verdeutlicht werden, die zwei einander befruchtende und teilweise auch verbündete, aber nicht identische und verwechselbare Elemente darstellen.

Zwischen Gesetz und Evangelium. Spannung als Grundfaktum des Menschseins

Die Lehre von Gesetz und Evangelium gilt als die Besonderheit der Theologie Martin Luthers und der lutherischen Tradition. Das Gesetz füllt nach Luther die gesellschaftliche Funktion (usus politicus oder usus civilis), vor allem aber die theologische Funktion (usus theologicus), die den Menschen auf das Evangelium von der Rechtfertigung des Gottlosen um Christi willen hinweist. Das Gesetz darf nicht zum Evangelium werden und umgekehrt – deswegen hielt Luther die Lehre vom Gesetz und Evangelium bzw. die Unterscheidung und distinktive Zuordnung beider Größen für „die höchste Kunst im Christentum“. Die Plausibilität dieser Lehre wird hier auf die gegenwärtige gesellschaftliche und kirchliche Situation hin behandelt. Die Lehre von Gesetz und Evangelium wird als ein existentieller Vorgang verstanden, sofern das Evangelium zum Nachdenken über die vorgelegten Lösungsvorschläge zu den brennenden Fragen immer wieder anregt sowie Kraft und Hoffnung gibt.

Abstrakt:

Accommodation as the fundamental regulatory term of a dynamic conception of God

This article is a daring attempt of introducing a new term into the theological discourse: the divine accommodation. It should serve as the fundamental regulative term for a dynamic concept of God. The text starts with the traditional concept of divine apathy and immutability and with the struggle of its christological contextualization in the early church, showing clearly the source of the problem. After dealing with the dynamic concepts of K. Rahner and the process theology, the author offers his own solution, which tries to critically follow up the traditional terms. The christologically anchored term of accommodation should primarily secure the dynamics of God’s being within the Trinity; in Christology, it should replace the traditional doctrine of communicatio idiomatum, which contributes to a static term of God; and in the speech of God in general, it should contribute to a more specific profile of traditional divine attributes as love, mercy or freedom. The term of divine accommodation should thus unite ontology, soteriology and eschatology.
