Aramejská epigrafika a Starý zákon

ARAMAIC EPIGRAPHY AND OLD TESTAMENT

After a brief summary of concerning the Aramaic epigraphy, the author presents his own interpretation of the Aramaic inscription on stele no. III from Sefire (Syria). In the article he presents how this text may shed a new light on some Old Testament texts that concern different coalitions of Levantine states in the Iron Age. The Aramaic text of Sefire III was written a few years before the so called “Syro-Ephraimite war” of Damascus and Israel against Judah in the mid-8th century, and illustrates what could have been the legal context of the creation of such a coalition.

Existuje ‚to‘ lepší a lze je nalézt? (Kazatel 7,1–12)

Abstrakt:

DOES THE BETTER EXIST AND IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND IT? (QOHELET 7,1–12)

The fundamental question permeating the book of Qohelet as such is concentrated on attainability of that what is good (hebr. tōv, bwj) for man in his/her existence defined as being ‘under the sun’ (vmvh txt). This study deals with the first part of the 7th chapter and after putting the text to its close context, it exposes its elaborated four-part structure (vv. 1–6a; 6b–7; 8–10; 11–12) as a potential key for understanding of its very complex dynamics. Such perspective enables deeper insight into logic and ingenious fabric of the text which seems otherwise to be more or less loose collection of sapiential sayings partly contradicting each other.

Finanční podpora misijní práce apoštola Pavla: Evangelium zadarmo?

FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF THE MISSION WORK OF THE APOSTLE PAUL: THE GOSPEL FOR FREE?

This paper presents the New Testament contribution to the debate on the financial independence of the Czech churches and their operation without state support. For this purpose we investigate some aspects of the financial policy of the apostle Paul, documented in the New Testament. The first chapter deals with the socio-historical context in Greco-Roman society and possible means of livelihood for teachers or wandering missionaries in the first century. In the second chapter we focus on some attitudes toward manual work in antiquity as the context of Paul’s own trade and his work ethos. The following part shows briefly the texts relevant to our topic; this digest documents the variety and flexibility of the apostle Paul regarding support for mission work. The final chapter is a synthesis of the essay and an attempt to present three“ rights” and“ freedoms” for both the pastors and the churches to seek and accept possible means of support based on the socio-economical context and setting, with their obvious pros and cons. In the conclusion we address the question, what were the necessary conditions on the side of the early local churches and the apostle Paul which allowed him to preach the Gospel for free.

Práce na bohoslužebných knihách Českobratrské církve evangelické do roku 1939

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SERVICE BOOKS OF THE EVANGELICAL CHURCH OF CZECH BRETHREN UNTIL 1939

The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (ECCB) was established in 1918 as a united church and soon afterwards work on the development of a service book began. It was intended that this book would be composed mainly of elements from the Czech reformation tradition, with forms appropriate for the unity of the Lutheran and Reformed wings of the ECCB. In 1923 a special committee was established for this purpose. The first service book of the new church was published in 1925 as Příručka bohoslužebná pro Českobratrskou církev evangelickou (Service Handbook of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren). Its use was optional. But this was only the first step; the Service Handbook was supposed to be a draft for subsequent work. A few congregations accepted this book. In 1928 the preparation of new service book began, with the publication of a draft second volume of the Service Handbook as a basis for discussion and remarks. This draft was strongly attacked by the clergy due to its theological errors, the inclusion of liturgical elements, and other shortcomings. In 1939 the final version of the service book was published: Kniha modliteb a služebností Českobratrské církve evangelické (Book of Prayers and Services of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren). The church leadership urged congregations to adapt their worship so that it was in keeping with this new handbook.
